Two months ago I was able to go on vacation with my family in St Lucia. St Lucia is an incredibly beautiful island in the eastern Caribbean. It's home to the breathtaking Piton mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, amazing reefs teeming with tropical fish, and lush rainforests. All of these things make it easy to understand why the French and English fought over this island paradise for over 150 years.

Unfortunately for us and the environment, the manufacturing process in clothing and especially swimwear can be very harmful. Here’s 5 ways that cute bikini you got for $50 is killing the environment.
- The fabric it’s made out of (Nylon, Polyester, & Spandex) is plastic based and not biodegradable. That means when it gets worn out and you don’t want it anymore, it takes hundreds of years to breakdown.
- The fabric it’s made out of is also made out of fossil fuels. That means the burning of fossil fuels goes into the production of the material and if burned will emit carbon. Why would anyone burn your old bathing suit? Many countries burn their trash including old clothes that people throw away.
