BFAW’s Eco-Friendly Fabric

Hi everyone, it’s Dylan, founder of BFAW, thanks for reading! I wanted to share with you all one of the most important things about my brand: our fabric.

When starting Born From A Wave I wanted to create the best product that I could and a main part of that was using the best fabrics that I could find. I also knew I wanted my brand to be as eco-friendly and sustainable as possible. After lots of research I found Carvico Econyl and decided it was the perfect fit for my suits.

Carvico Econyl is an Italian fabric that is made from recycled plastics, such as discarded fishing nets, that have been reclaimed from the ocean.

Using fabric that’s made from recycled plastics that’ve been reclaimed from the ocean helps to keep our oceans cleaner, safer for marine life, and more enjoyable for us!

It’s estimated that 8 million tons of waste ends up in or oceans every year and specifically 640 million tons of fishing nets are abandoned at the bottom of the ocean.*

These stats tell us that unless we all make a conscious effort to make changes in our lifestyles, such as recycling or reducing our plastic consumption, by 2050 our oceans could contain more plastic than fish.

With the help of volunteers from Healthy Seas, Carvico has been able to collect 453 million tons of fishing nets from 2013 - 2018 that they have then been able to turn into sustainable textiles, such as the fabric that we use for our swimwear!

Protecting our oceans and marine life is something that I’m personally passionate about and I’m so happy I can help contribute to these causes through creating sustainable swimwear.
